Why are our cells struggling so badly with going awry with cancer? Today, in a time of unprecedented opportunity our species is facing the battle of a life time as we try to understand how to keep our bodies, minds and spirits supported and healthy. Now research has shown us there isn’t a defined barrier between these three aspects of our lives that one blends into another as we swim along in this river we call life. How we live, who we choose to associate with, how we eat, where we work all factors into our overall health.
For twenty five years now our family has struggled with one form of cancer or another after a seemingly completely clear history. This was a conundrum for my father, a scientist, who couldn’t figure out how after generations of good health our family suddenly had to struggle with lymphoma, testicular, breast, bone, thyroid and ovarian cancer. My father no longer walks with us from his battle. My brother and I have both wrangled with the beast and have been lucky so far. My mother is on her 25th year of breast cancer survival, having it return two times and now possibly three as I write this blog.
What’s up? How can it be in a time of such global prosperity (at least for some) and technology that we haven’t found out why these little cells are turned on and sometimes over and over again? When we finally figure out, and I understand we are close, how to turn them off and not agitate them, it will be a day for celebration indeed.
What can we do to calm the storm? The now fairly known concept of holistic practices, figuring out ways to connect our mind and body, to ease stress (that’s a good one isn’t it?) and find harmony in our lives seems to be at the very basis of the answer but our modern society with its incredibly demanding lifestyle doesn’t leave much time for this sort of contemplation for most of us. In other parts of the world where their very survival depends still on basic life necessities, they don’t seem to suffer from the same ailments but have others even more devastating such as starvation and severe malnutrition.
As we work to find ways to support the most desperate nations on our planet, we still have such a battle on our hands. I guess it’s time to really bring out the “Misha” factor and up the ante on our communication around possible solutions, don’t you think? For now by input is eat well, like your body is your temple, love completely, even if it hurts sometimes and laugh allot-don’t take yourself too seriously…..
For me, our struggle particularly with cancer but other diseases that seem to be on the rise are clearly linked to us putting nasty things into our environment somehow believing it won’t affect us-now we know it will and is. So lets all get activated to clean our planet up! Its pretty much a no-brainer now isn’t it? For us, for the environment, for the other creatures that are struggling as well from toxins, its time we took this very seriously. As we work at making it better, its nice to sit with the fact that freaking out about it all won’t help either, so perspective is key.
Here is a beautiful snippet to help us all remember, we are here for a short time, so lets make the very best of it!
